WHL playoffs: Blades complete comeback, beat Rebels 5-2 in Game 7
The Saskatoon Blades win the Western Hockey League championship.
The Saskatoon Blades advanced to the Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Final after defeating the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday night 5-2.
The Blades, after losing the first three games in the best-of seven series to the Rebels, racked up four consecutive wins to punch their tickets to the conference final, and a meeting with the powerful Winnipeg ICE.
Conner Roulette, Spencer Shugrue and Vaughn Watterodt each scored two goals for the Blades.
The Rebels were outshot by 28-25. Hunter Mayo scored and Ryker singer also did.
After the first period, the teams were level at 1-1 and then 2-2.
The ICE won the Moose Jaw Warriors series 4-2 after winning three consecutive games, having fallen behind 2-1.
Seattle Thunderbirds and Kamloops Blazers will play in the Western Conference Final, a best-of-7 series. The matchup takes place on Saturday at Seattle, Wash. The Blazers are hosting and playing in the 2023 Memorial Cup between May 26 and June 4.
