Wawa submits plans for East End location

Wawa is planning to open a new location in Louisville.
Media, Pennsylvania based convenience store chain has submitted a request for change in zoning to Louisville Metro Government regarding a new store located at 12408 Taylorsville Road. The construction plan calls to build a 5,915 square foot store with eight gasoline pumps on more than 4 acres.
Michael Thomas and Gabrielle Knoer own the adjoining properties. Kimley-Horn is an Indiana-based engineering consultant involved in this project.
The opening date of this store is not known. This story may be updated after I reach out to Wawa.
In April, I wrote that Wawa had requested a change to the zoning of a location located at 7601 Vaughn Mill Road near Outer Loop. Wawa's spokesperson told me that the company couldn't confirm the location or the timeline at the time but was actively searching for sites to open new Wawas, including one in Louisville in 2025.
Wawa employs over 37,000 people in 15 states, according to a letter that was attached to the filing. According to the letter, Wawa's revenue for 2020 is $13 billion.
Wawa announced in December that it would be opening its first stores to Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Wawa has a long-term plan to expand into new and adjacent markets.
Wawa Inc. is a privately-held company that began in New Jersey in 1803 as a foundry.
The stores have a wide variety of fresh food, including Wawa brand products such as freshly brewed coffee and hot breakfast sandwiches. They also offer hand-crafted specialty drinks, a menu for dinner, which includes burgers and a selection of sides, soups and snacks.
