TikTok users file lawsuit against Montana over first-in-nation law banning app

The lawsuit claims that the ban would violate their first amendment rights.

Five TikTok app users have filed a suit to stop a ban in Montana.

In a complaint filed in Missoula federal court, they argued that the law violated their right to free speech and was unconstitutional.

Also, they claim that the state does not have any authority in matters of national safety. Greg Gianforte, who signed the bill Wednesday into law, said that it would prevent Montana residents' personal data and private data from being harvested by China.

The ban will take effect on January 1, 2024.
