Ukrainian forces have destroyed a second strategically significant bridge in the Kursk region of Russia as their incursion continues. Moscow has not yet responded robustly to the cross-border operation. Around 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers are involved in the incursion, and they claim to have taken control of 82 settlements in the region over an area of 1,150 square kilometers since the border raid began. The Ukrainian forces have targeted key transport and fuel infrastructure to hinder Russian resupply efforts in eastern and southern Ukraine. Russia’s response to the incursion has been criticized for its lack of preparation and slow action. Defense analysts predict that Russia will need to redeploy more forces to counter the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk, which could require increased manpower and resources. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that their aim is to destroy Russian war potential and create a buffer zone to prevent further attacks on Ukraine’s border regions. He also called on Western allies to expedite the delivery of military aid.
