GM to Lay Off Nearly 1,700 Workers at Kansas Plant #

General Motors is set to lay off 1,695 workers at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. The layoffs will occur in two phases.

The first round of layoffs is scheduled to begin on November 18. This phase will involve the temporary layoff of 686 full-time workers and the termination of 250 temporary employees.

The second phase will commence on January 12, with 759 full-time workers being temporarily laid off.

These layoffs are connected to GM’s earlier announcement about pausing production of the Cadillac XT4 after January 2025 at the Kansas facility. The company plans to resume production in late 2025, manufacturing both the Bolt EV and XT4 on the same assembly line.

This move follows GM’s previous announcement in August about laying off more than 1,000 salaried employees in its software and service units globally.
