The 2022 federal income taxes for President Joe Biden, and First Lady Jill Biden were released on Tuesday. They showed a gross of $579.514, a drop from their first year at the White House.
The Bidens had a reported income of $610 702 in 2021. The federally adjusted gross income of the couple for 2022 shows a decrease by approximately $31,000.
Last year, the couple paid federal income taxes of $137,658. This is a rate of 23.8%, which will be 25.8% in 2021. The couple also paid $29 023 in Delaware income taxes and $3 139 in Virginia, from Jill Biden’s salary as a teacher at Northern Virginia Community College.
Biden earns a salary as president of $400,000 per year, plus a $50,000 expense allowance, which is set by Congress.
The Bidens reported contributions to 20 charities of $20,180 in 2022. Their largest donation was $5,000 to the Beau Biden Foundation.
The couple has also donated to St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Delaware, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, and the National Fraternal Order of Police Foundation.
Vice President Kamala Harris, her husband Doug Emhoff, and their tax returns for 2022 were also released. They reported a federally adjusted gross income (FAGI) of $456.918, which is less than half the $1.7million they reported in 2020. The couple paid federal income taxes of $93,570, which is a rate of 20.5%.
Emhoff also paid $17.612 in California income taxes, while Emhoff paid $9.697 in District of Columbia Income Tax. In 2022, they donated $23,000 to charity.
Since Richard Nixon, every president has released his or her tax returns. The only exception is the former President Donald Trump who fought for years to hide his taxes.
The House Ways and Means Committee (which at the time was controlled largely by Democrats) obtained six years' worth of Trump's business and personal returns at the end last year.
